Corticolous; on deciduous trees; very common

Lobes with marginal cilia; lobe ends raised, helmet-like (difference to P. tenella); soralia on the lower side of the helmets; upper surface with pseudocyphellae (better visible when wet, see upper image).
Cortex K+ yellow, medulla K-.
